If you look back at just a decade ago, gaming was a very rare hobby. Though we all enjoyed the odd video game growing up, not many of us picked it up as a dedicated hobby. This was partly because of the stigma associated with gamers.
All you have to do is look at the media’s interpretation of gamers to figure out why few people wanted to be pinned as a gamer. In TV and movies, gamers are presented to be losers that care more about their games than their hygiene, which we of course know is not an accurate representation of gamers.
Though gaming has been a bit of an exclusive group for some time now, something that you may have noticed is that more and more people have picked up the hobby in the last year. There is a direct correlation between Covid and the number of new gamers that have been introduced to the world and so here is a look into how covid created a new wave of gamers.
Everyone Had a Lot of Time on Their Hands
One of the main reasons that so many people have picked up gaming in the last year is because we all had a lot of time on our hands. Covid meant that many of us were unable to go to work and it certainly meant that we were unable to go to social events.
There are only so many hours in a day that can be spent watching TV and so many of us needed a new way to stimulate our brains. Gaming seemed like an obvious choice, as most of us have some form of a console in our homes.
Many people returned to games that we would often play when we were younger and many of us decided to branch out into brand new games. The world of gaming has truly evolved in the last few years and so lots of us were surprised to realise that there are many games and gaming genres to choose from. This means that no matter what your personal taste is, there is a game for you to play on the market.
You don’t have to be incredibly skilled
Another reason why so many people were put off by the idea of gaming for such a long time is that you had to have a certain skill level to play them. Due to how diverse the world of gaming is now, you don’t necessarily have to be great at games to have a fun time.
There are slower-paced games for people who don’t really enjoy the rush of PVP games, such as farming games like Stardew Valley.
If you are a fan of fast-paced PVP games, you can also enjoy them thanks to the introduction of aimbots. Aimbots make it a little easier for you to target people in games and I have personally started to use aimbots for rust, just so that I can get used to playing at a fast pace and under the pressures of the game.
Brand New Consoles
One of the biggest reasons that so many people are choosing to play games is due to the introduction of new consoles during the lockdown. The biggest release had to be the release of the PS5. The PS5 completely reinvented console technology and even the controller that came with the PS5 was absolutely revolutionary. The graphic capabilities of the PS5 have never been experienced before and so even people who don’t really game just had to try it out for themselves.
